MISD Updated Attendance and Cell Phone Policy

Dear Mansfield ISD Parents and Guardians,

Happy New Year and welcome back! Education is a team effort, and students, parents, teachers, and staff members working together will make this a successful year. We are excited for a productive spring semester and want to reinforce two key areas vital for maintaining a focused learning environment: attendance and our electronic device policy.

Attendance Matters – Every day Counts

Research consistently shows that one of the strongest contributors to student success is regular school attendance. Being present each day supports academic growth, builds strong learning habits, and helps students stay connected to their teachers and peers. In Texas, school funding is also based on daily student attendance, making each day a student is present meaningful for both learning and the resources that support our schools.

When a student is absent, a signed parent note should be submitted upon the student’s return. If an illness lasts more than five consecutive school days, a doctor’s or clinic note must be provided within three days of the student’s return, or the absence may be recorded as unexcused. Thank you for supporting student health and consistent attendance.

Personal Electronic Communication Device Policy

The district strictly prohibits the use of a personal communication device (PCD), such as cell phones, tablets, Meta glasses, and smartwatches, while on school property during the school day. Students must keep their personal devices turned off and securely stored out of sight from the beginning to the end of the school day. Storage is not permitted on the student’s person or in an item of clothing.

Unauthorized use of a prohibited device during the school day will result in confiscation and disciplinary action. We remind you of our graduated consequences for device retrieval:

  • For the first and second offenses, the parent or student can retrieve the device from the administrator’s office,
  • Change in Policy: Beginning with the third offense and subsequent offenses, the device will only be released to the parent or guardian from the school administrator’s office. The device will not be released to the student.

Thank you for partnering with us to ensure a safe and successful semester.
